About Terry Anderson
I grew up in rural southwest Kansas and spent a great deal of time outdoors camping, hunting and sometimes fishing.
Art was a form of expression which showed my love of the land and the animals that lived on it. I spent a lot of time drawing as a younger person. In later years I would paint, using water colors, on pieces of wood, cardboard and a few times on fan blades from old windmills.
Oil painting began as an adult as a result of a family vacation trip to Montana, to visit my brother. I was inspired by the works of Charles M. Russell, whose work blended perfectly with my interest in the outdoors and early American history.
I am mostly self taught but have had instruction in color and composition from notable artists such as Nancy and Teri Brown, Jack Sorensen and most recently a plein air workshop with Aaron Schuerr.
Creating work in pastel has become an interest since 2013, and am working to improve my skill in that medium.
In addition to Russell and my instructors, my work has been inspired by landscape and wildlife artists like Reid Christie,John Clymer,Carl Rungius, Richard McKinley,Tom Christopher and Albert Handell.
I enjoy portraying the landscape and sometimes including people or wildlife as part of the landscape.
Now being retired allows me more time to paint and travel, with my wife Lana, throughout Kansas, southwest Montana and the Rocky Mountain states.
